From North Bay, Ontario, Nate proudly grew up playing in the North Bay Trappers AAA minor hockey system. After moving to Mississauga during his minor midget season, he was selected by the Peterborough Petes in the 2015 OHL priority selection. During the 2016/17 season, Nate started his junior hockey career with the Powassan Voodoos of the NOJHL. He would go on to earn the starting job as a 17 year old, while winning CJHL goalie of the month twice and contributing to the Voodoos only NOJHL championship to date. Nate set several franchise records that still stand and accumulated several awards during that season, including NOJHL 1st team all-star, NOJHL Goalie of the Year, and NOJHL League MVP. He was also selected to the CJHL/NHL Top Prospects game where he was labelled a C rating for the NHL draft. Towards the end of the 2016/17 season, Nate became the first goaltender in Ontario that year to secure an NCAA Division 1 Scholarship.
Nate would go on to play one more season of junior hockey in the OJHL, splitting time between the Whitby Fury and the Markham Royals, before heading to Cornell University in the fall of 2018. At Cornell, he was a two time Ivy League champion and also won an ECAC regular season championship. In his senior year, he won ECAC Goalie of the Week after a 3-2 OT win vs. Brown followed by a 3-0 shutout victory over Yale the next night. The Cornell Men's Ice Hockey team was ranked #1 nationally on four separate occasions during Nate's time at Lynah Rink.
Off the ice, Nate completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minor concentrations in both business as well as nutrition and health. Known for his leadership capabilities, Nate was nominated and selected into Cornell's "Red Key Athlete Honour Society" for having displayed tremendous leadership, exhibiting integrity and responsibility within his varsity program, showing a commitment to academics, and having taken part in community service in the Cornell/Ithaca community. Despite all the accolades, one of Nate's proudest accomplishments was being elected by his Cornell teammates to the team's leadership core during the 2020/21 season.
After Cornell, Nate came back to Canada to compete for the University of Guelph while completing his Master of Science in Management, concentrating in Entrepreneurship.
As a coach, Nate sees the game on another level. With over 8 years experience coaching goaltenders of all ages and skill levels, Nate is able to connect with his students on a personal level to get the most out of them. His drive and knowledge of the position allowed him to secure a position as a Goaltending Consultant with the OHL's North Bay Battalion in his first season after retiring from playing. Nate's passion for the game and attention to detail is unmatched and he looks forward to working with you to elevate your game.
